The company's course through history
Foundrometers was incorporated in Leeds in 1919, it has remained to this day in Leeds. It originally began as a manufacturer of mechanical tachometers utilizing the governor principal.
The continued until the early 1930's.
It was during the 1930's that foundrometers acquired a pressure gauge and thermometer manufacturer. This led to a wider product offering.
Tachometers, Pressure & Temperature gauges continued to be manufactured through to the 1960's. It was during the 1960's that Foundrometers introduced the mechanical tachometer utilizing the Eddy Current Principal
In the early 1980's the company acquired Hardings Ltd. Hardings had been a competitor for many years and had developed tachogenerators and Electrical Indicators for speed measurement and a wide range of counters and positional instruments.
In the late 1980's the company was sold to the IMI plc group. This lasted until 1990 when after a strategic review IMI sold Foundrometers to 2 of it's current shareholders.
In the early part of the 1990's Foundrometers was again n the acquisition trail. It purchased the manufacturing rights to several temperature controllers and butterfly valves from Sydney Smith Dennis, who themselves had been established for over 100 years. Again broadening the product offering.
In the year 2000 Foundrometers merged with Rheintacho GmbH to create one of the world's biggest tachometer and rotational speed measurement and control companies. The product line was rationalised to reflect this and to capitalize on this advantage.
In 2005 Foundrometers became the exclusive distributors in the UK for IVO encoders and counters. Adding these products to our rotational speed division meant the company became a major player in motion indication and control.
